Dirtiest player
There’s been some nasty players over the years, Norman Hunter for Leeds, Tommy Smith for Liverpool, Robbie Savage etc:

I watched an old cup game during the week, it was Man Utd at Wimbledon and some of the tackles Vinny Jones put in were outrageous….He was chopping Robbie Keane and Eric Cantona to bits…. Made me laugh! He was a lunatic!

Wouldn’t get away with any of that today.

Anyway what player stands out to you?

Re: Dirtiest player
Norman Hunter used to do some appalling fouls but apologised profusely after them, thus conning the ref. This is why he got relatively few cards.

I’m with Cor Blimey, there’s a big difference between hard and dirty, we’ve nearly all played the game at different levels, and I never had a problem facing a hard player, you knew what to expect, but dirty/ sly, they were the ones that you had to watch as they usually waited until you’d gone past them or won the tackle before they would have a go, bloody cowards.

Michael Brown filthy little shitbag. Played for Sheffield United and the 4B2s nothing in his favour really, and now he's a pundit on TV. How was this allowed to happen?

Steve Foster. Deliberately did a knee high tackle on devo early in the league cup semi home leg. Also generally an all round elbowy dirty cunt.

Lee cattermole - I can’t think of a single game I saw him play where he didn’t deserve at least 4 yellows

Re: Dirtiest player
Years ago Mooro, knowing better than Greenwood what the team needed to progress, suggested the Manager bring in a defender named Maurice Setters. In those days we played attractive, productive attacking football but our defence was fragile. Setters was Moore’s view of what we needed but naturally Greenwood, being a football purist rather than pragmatist ignored his Captain.

Setters was a hard and effective no nonsense defender. I often wonder if Setters could have helped move the team to the upper, title challenging, level.

Re: Dirtiest player
I always thought of Julian Dicks as hard rather than dirty.
Just went a bit mental sometimes

I remember that day at Upton Park v Arsenal when he decided he wanted to hit Perry Groves with about half a dozen perfectly fair CRUNCHING tackles. The crowd were laughing by the end & Groves almost in tears.
